Local Information about Colne
This market town in Lancashire lies six miles from Burnley. Settlement in the area traces back to the Stone Age. The local cross (allowing a market to be held) dates to the 15th century – and now sits in the main Market St bisecting the town centre. Its cotton industry has pretty much disappeared; many textile weaving mills giving way to retailers and housing. The M65 terminates west of town; two main roads, the A56 and A6068, lead onwards. Colne railway station is East Lancashire railway line’s terminus.
